Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get my own personal equipment?

Club Founder, Michael Vitoux is able to order personal equipment at discounted prices including, masks, weapons, bags, jackets, lames, plastrons, knickers, socks and shoes.  All measuring and sizing is done by Michael, and orders are delivered to The Point.  Payment is made directly to Michael and payable once the equipment arrives.  Please contact Michael directly at mevitoux@gmail.com or just catch up with him at the club!

Since there are no classes offered in the summer, what’s included in my summer membership?

Although there are no” official” classes offered during the summer months, many fencers find that open fencing is a great time to develop and refine their skills against club members.  The club is open in the evenings, and fees are charged to allow access to equipment and facilities, cover the maintenance of the club, and pay for the utilities.  Private lessons can be arranged depending on staff availability, and summer camps use the facilities during the days on specific weeks.

What is the relationship between the Fencing Illini and The Point?

The Point provides the host facility, and is the "home" to the University of Illinois-Fencing Illlini. The Illini are members of the collegiate club team associated with the University, and enjoy discounted memberships to participate at the Point. In exchange, these collegiate students promote the club through the University, and help teach beginners courses both semesters.  The Fencing Illini help to diversify the skill level and strategies Point members are exposed to in creating a more robust practice and club experience.
