The Point Membership Benefits

Group Instruction

The Point provides opportunities for participants ages 8-80+ to learn the basics of fencing through group lessons.  Participants receive instruction/coaching on basic footwork, blade work, bouting and tactic strategies.  Participants learn competitive etiquette while developing their skills through conditioning and lead up games.  Fall classes begin after Labor day in September and spring classes begin after Martin Luther King Day in January. Group lessons run for 12 weeks each semester with a week break for Thanksgiving (fall classes) or Spring break (spring classes).

Private Instruction

The Point provides opportunities for private instruction for ages 8-80+ to enhance the basics of fencing.  Private lesson participants make arrangements directly with available instructors to schedule lesson times as space is available.  Private instruction costs vary on the experience of the instructor.  Club members pay instructors separately for private instruction. Please inquire through club staff for a list of available private lesson instructors.

Open Fencing

Club members who have completed a Beginning Fencing Class are welcome to use the electric equipment and scoring boxes for competitive bouts during our Open Fencing times. Open Fencing begins with group footwork and conditioning drills, followed by informal competitive fencing between club members or paid guests. Times vary, but generally, Open Fencing follows group lessons from 7:30-8:30 on most evenings.

Competition

The Point provides competitive opportunities in all three weapons for members and welcomes fencers from other clubs to compete.  The schedule of tournaments is posted at The Club, on AskFred.net and on the Point Fencing Club Facebook Page, and at The Point Fencing Club & School.  Pre-registration is encouraged for all tournaments at www.askFred.net Event day registration begins 1 hour prior to scheduled start time.  All Point hosted tournaments require US Fencing membership, regulation equipment and uniforms, and a nominal entry fee. All tournaments are open to the public.
